The causes of the international variation in drug usage: an exploration of the evidence

Ellen Nolte, Coordinator of the two offices of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies at the LSE and the LSHTM, discusses the findings of a study that sought to explore the “causes” of international variation in medicines usage in five selected areas: dementia, osteoporosis, cancer, diabetes and hepatitis C.
